چکیده

purpose: to evaluate the effectiveness of corneal collagen cross-linking with uv-a and riboflavin (cxl) for treatment of refractory herpes simplex virus necrotizing keratitis. case reports: two patients with a diagnosis of hsv necrotizing stromal keratitis referred to khalili hospital eye emergency room and who were resistant to conventional treatment underwent cxl. response to treatment was evaluated clinically by speed of reepithelialization and decrease in stromal infiltration. one patient had history of previous corneal graft because of hsv kerstitis and had a good response to cxl. another patient had a relatively good response, but recurrence was occurred. conclusion: although cxl seems promising in the treatment of patients with refractory necrotizing keratitis, in some cases it may less effective and recurrence is possible.

Profile of Microbial Keratitis after Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking

PURPOSE To report the profile of microbial keratitis occurring after corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) in keratoconus patients. METHODS A retrospective analysis of 2350 patients (1715 conventional CXL, 310 transepithelial CXL, and 325 accelerated CXL) over 7 years (from January 2007 to January 2014) of progressive keratoconus, who underwent CXL at a tertiary eye care centre, was performed....

The outcome of corneal grafting in patients with stromal keratitis of herpetic and non-herpetic origin.

AIM To evaluate the outcome of corneal grafting in patients with stromal keratitis of herpetic (HSK) and non-herpetic origin, using predefined diagnostic criteria and standardised postoperative therapeutic strategies. METHODS 384 adult immunocompetent recipients of a corneal graft for herpetic (n = 186) or non-herpetic (n = 198) keratitis were followed up prospectively for up to 5 years. RE...

Additive effect of repeated corneal collagen cross-linking in keratoconus.

PURPOSE To report the long-term clinical outcome in a patient diagnosed as having bilateral progressive keratoconus who received a single corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) treatment in the right eye and repeated CXL in the left eye. METHODS Observational case report. Topographical changes were assessed by high-resolution Scheimpflug imaging. The right eye underwent a standard epithelium-of...

Corneal Ectasis among Wrestlers: Report of Two Cases

Report keratoconus in two patients with a long history of wrestling without any risk factor for corneal ectasia and reviewing the possible pathogenesis. To confirm suspicion of keratoconus, corneal topography was performed using scanning slit topography system and Orbscan. In two wrestlers with the complaint of visual loss in their eyes and IOP raising, corneal topography was performed and de...

Therapeutic effect of amniotic membrane in persistent epithelial defects and corneal ulcers in herpetic keratitis.

Amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) promotes rapid epithelialization and reduces stromal inflammation and ulceration in HSV-1 keratitis. 18 patients with non-healing epithelial defect or corneal ulcer caused by herpetic keratitis were included in the study. All patients were treated by AMT. Corneal epithelial cells in patients suffering from herpetic keratitis secreted 5+/-4.8 pg/ml of IL-1...
